2020 Deadline for Foundation Scholarship Apps is March 13!
February 25, 2020
Union High School students in the graduating class of 2020 have until March 13 to submit their completed applications to the UHS Counseling Office for this year’s Foundation scholarships. Over sixty scholarships totaling more than $54,000 were awarded in 2019 to graduating UHS seniors.
Union R-XI Foundation scholarships are available to all eligible graduating UHS seniors. Nancy Schroeder, Foundation president, wants to remind all graduates that, “the chance to earn scholarships from the Foundation is available to every Union High School senior. And Foundation scholarships can be awarded to students pursuing a variety of post-secondary schooling, even if they are A+ scholars, planning to attend a vocational-technical school, or already have been awarded other scholarships. We invite all UHS graduates who wish to continue their education to apply.”
Scholarship applications are available from the Union High School Counseling Office or can be downloaded as a PDF here on our website. Please make sure that any graduating UHS seniors you know get this information as soon as possible.
In 2019, Foundation Scholarships Totaling $54,000 Were Awarded to UHS Seniors!
May 14, 2019
Each May during the week of commencement exercises, the Union R-XI School Foundation awards tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships to dozens of graduating Wildcat seniors at a scholarship awards night. This year, the presentation was held on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, and the total amount of awards was $54,000. Over the past thirty years, the total amount of scholarships given has been over $550,000!
The students apply for the awards and are selected by a committee of Foundation directors. Jane Ridder, retired R-XI teacher and long-time Foundation board member, has led the process since the early 1990s, finalizing recipients, coordinating presenters, and helping college-bound teens learn the fine art of the thank you note.

Students interested in applying for a Foundation scholarship should use the PDF form that can be accessed on this website’s Documents page under the Resources menu above.

Many, many thanks to Janet Goodman, Registrar in the Union High School Counseling Office, for compiling the list!

Spotlight on…
Madison Faccaro, 2018 Foundation Scholarship Recipient

“I’ve been balancing my work-study job, Sonic job, and being a full-time college student pretty well. Of course, it’s stressful sometimes but I’m still able to pay for school,” says Truman State University freshman, Maddy Faccaro. She was the recipient of the John and Mabel Devos Memorial Scholarship and a Foundation scholarship in memory of John Devos last May.
Madison is an English major and is focusing her studies mainly on creative writing. In addition to her work and study schedule, she has also found time to secure a position as the assistant sound engineer for Truman’s theater department. A former UHS Red ‘n’ Black Brigade member and drama fixture, Maddy has found a way to include her love of the performing arts into her busy schedule.
As for the help she received from the Union R-XI Foundation, “I’m very grateful for these two scholarships as they’ve alleviated part of the total cost for me… Again, thank you so much for choosing me as the recipient for the Foundation scholarships. It means a lot to me and has helped me so much this year!! You are a blessing and I thank you so so SO much for giving me this opportunity and chance to be able to fully afford college!”
Well, Maddy, you are quite welcome! Keep working hard and learn all you can. We can’t wait to see how things turn out for you!
